“AMAGI” Ancient Debt Cancellation

A document excavated from a city in Mesopotamia in 2400 B.C.

“I have brought freedom to the city of Lagash. I have returned mothers to children, children to mothers, and canceled their debts.”

There was a debt cancellation system, “Amagi.”
The city’s ruler collected tax in the form of wheat; otherwise, if not paid, they would be in debt. The children were sold as slaves to the ruling class after the family’s debts became too great to pay.

However, these torn people are no longer motivated to work and cannot pay taxes. Therefore, by canceling the debts once a year, the balance was maintained, and society was sustained.

Since ancient times, people have lived in the family center.
Labor is for family (end), not money (means).
